Congratulations are in order!!! The 2010 Randolph Caldecott Medal winner for the most distingushed children’s picture book is The Lion and the Mouse by Jerry Pinkney. Pinkney’s adaptation of the classic Aesop fables The Lion and the Mouse, is a wordless depiction of the tale, showing how unlikely circumstances and friendships often present themselves. With just a few words, roars, whoo-hoots from the owl and sqeakes and scratches from mouse. Pinkneys vivid and colorful visual tale comes alive.
Truly a great work of art and unique piece of literature for children. One part of childen’s lit that is less well known is the wordless picture books. Make no mistake that the pictures minus the words are still great pieces of literature and important to language development. This book is great ofr interactive story telling – the children will be able to look at the detailed and colorful illustrations and tell you the story based on what they see.
