Happy New Year! It’s 2011 and it is a new month, new year and a new fresh year of great reads is on the way! January also marks the announcments of the ALA Youth Media Awards – this will include Newbery and Caldecott Medal winners (for books published in 2010).
A fitting feature is one of the Caldecott Medal Honor books from 2010. All the World by Garton Scanlon and illustrated by Marla Frazee. This little read is perfect for ages 2-6 and little ones will love it! It’s simple text and detailed pictures are a great beginning to teaching social skills, sense of community, kindness and appreciation for the “world” that we all live in and share. It also gives a great lesson and appreciation for each individual’s little niche and corner of the “world”.
It is so awesome when you can travel the world and explore new places and meet new people. But with so many connections to far away places it is possible to teach and learn about places that you have never been. All the World is a great book to teach geography, family, and social skills. It has amazing pictures so detailed and real; it really gives a true small town feel. It’s a big world for little ones – and it is amazing what one little book can teach!
Share All the World with your little ones and rememeber that you are a part of this great big world too! See the full article review on Allentown Children’s Books Examiner. Follow along with ALA Youth Media Awards on Twitter and Facebook.
